Activism:
These trail points capture people (like Stokely Carmichael) and events (like the 1919 race riots) that shaped neighborhood, ciy, and national history.
Education:
Professors, academic buildings, and residences, many on the current campus of or related to the history of Howard University, make up this subset of the heritage trail points.

Entertainment:
Theaters, clubs, studios, and stadiums formed the backbone of DC social life throughout much of the 20th Century.
Industry:
These places of industry served as sources of neighborhood jobs and aromas (from the Bond Bread and the Wonder Bread factories).

Local Business:
From hair dressers to bakeries, these well known businesses and business owners created havens for entrepreneurship and social interaction.

Service:
Churches and hospitals provided important anchors for the community, while pocket parks created opportunities for play and informal gatherings.
