Welcome!

This is the official site of the Georgia Avenue/Pleasant Plains Heritage Trail, which will document the history of Georgia Avenue from the Shaw to the Petworth Metros.  This project is sponsored by the Emergence Community Arts Collective working in collaboration with Cultural Tourism DC.  Work on the trail is in progress, and it is not too late for you to add your contribution.

Historic Sites On The Trail

Although the trail will consist of no more than 18 trail markers, it will tell the story of more than 50 sites, events and people along the way. The markers map highlights the sites we’ve identified to date. Each site, or trail point, will be documented in more depth on the trail points page. Pplease join the effort to map these sites into a walkable trail.

Commemorative naming recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to a specific geographic area or feature. The name of the city of Washington, DC, depicted in this 1792 map, commemorates the first President of the United States, George Washington. [Source, USGS]
